TWRP OrangeFox Recovery Project for Redmi Note 5 / 5 Plus

Supports: Miui, Treble/Non-Treble Custom Roms, GSI

A. INSTALLATION - with TWRP or a compatible Recovery
Download the OrangeFox zip file
Copy the OrangeFox zip file to your phone
Install it as a normal zip installer, with TWRP or compatible recovery
If, after the installation is completed, it appears to be stuck on "Rebooting to recovery ...", just reboot to recovery manually.

B. INSTALLATION - if you have stock miui Recovery
Make sure that you have installed and can use adb and fastboot
Download the OrangeFox zip file
Copy the OrangeFox zip file to your phone
Extract "recovery.img" from the OrangeFox zip file, and copy it to your adb/fastboot directory
Open a command Windows prompt (e.g., "cmd.exe") or a terminal in *nix-based systems, change to your adb/fastboot directory, and connect your phone to your computer via USB
Put your phone into fastboot mode - run "adb reboot bootloader"
When the bootloader logo appears, run "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"
Run "fastboot boot recovery.img"
When the phone has booted into OrangeFox, select "Install", choose the OrangeFox zip file, and swipe to install
If, after the installation is completed, it appears to be stuck on "Rebooting to recovery ...", just reboot to recovery manually
If you intend to reboot into miui (i.e., you are not going to install a custom ROM immediately), then you should do one of the following (before rebooting into miui):
a. install magisk, or
b. install supersu, or
c. install lazyflasher

C. MIUI OTA
In order to enjoy the MIUI OTA features of OrangeFox Recovery, take the following steps:
Download most up-to-date release of OrangeFox Recovery
Download a full MIUI ROM, and copy it to your phone's storage
Flash the OrangeFox Recovery zip with your current custom recovery (or follow the steps in the thread for installing from adb/fastboot)
Reboot into OrangeFox Recovery (this will happened automatically if you flashed the OrangeFox zip)
Go to the OrangeFox settings, and enable the MIUI OTA settings -
a. Support MIUI incremental OTA
b. Include system in OTA survival
c. Incremental OTA signature verification
d. Aggressive stock recovery deactivation
e. Disable DM-Verity
Wipe data, cache, and dalvik
Flash your full MIUI ROM
Reboot your phone, and start to use your phone normally
When MIUI notifies you that there is an update, download the update, using the MIUI updater app, and allow it to reboot automatically to OrangeFox
OrangeFox will install the update automatically (this might take several minutes - so you might want to go and make a cup of tea!)
OrangeFox will reboot the phone automatically upon completion of the installation of the MIUI OTA update
After this, you will not need to flash a full ROM any more - just follow the steps in #10 above
If you want to move to a completely different version/build of MIUI, then you will first need to clean-flash the full ROM of that MIUI build, as described above.
